Woven Bench

Woven bench 01 is a meeting of contemporary style and traditional artistry, showcasing the essence of modern craft.

Simple shapes provide a clean backdrop for the hand-woven paper cord, with the paper bringing an approachable charm to the design. To celebrate this humble material, careful consideration has been paid to proportion; an unconventionally thick seat clearly displays the material.

The hand-turned cylindrical oak legs are buffed to a fine finish to emphasise the grain’s natural depth and lustre. Sitting alongside the delicate wood surface, the rhythmic and textural weave of the paper draws attention to the contrasting qualities of both materials.

This product is made to order, please allow 8-12 weeks lead time.

Cleaning instructions

The frame is finished in premium spill and stain-resistant oil and can be wiped clean with a cloth and warm water. Paper cord normally requires very little maintenance, but if necessary the paper cord can be wiped with a tightly wrung soft cloth with a neutral, colourless soap solution. Be careful to limit the cords exposure to moisture.

Material sourcing

As always, responsible material sourcing is key to my working practice; the wood used to make this piece comes from a tree grown local to my workshop and felled as part of a native woodland regeneration project.
