Ribbon - Pendant light in Spalted Beech

Ribbon pendant is constructed from hand-planed strips of spalted beech wood. These 'ribbons' are softened in water and then laid across a cotton sheet before being formed around a cylinder.

Light passing through the shade is given a warm glow by the natural tone of the paper-thin wood. The timber's complex pattern is balanced by the shade's minimal form, giving the piece both an intriguing and reserved aesthetic.

The pendant light is sold as a complete set comprising of beech shade, 30cm long warm white bulb, braided fabric flex, and can be specified with either a 3-pin uk plug or ceiling rose fitting.

As always, responsible material sourcing is key to my working practice; the wood used to make this piece comes from a tree grown local to my workshop and felled as part of a native woodland regeneration project.

Beech is a material with natural variation, and although similar, your pendant may have grain detail different to the one pictured.

Cleaning instructions: Shades can be removed from light fitting and dusted with a delicate lint-free duster or if marked can be wiped clean with a damp lint-free cloth (shades are water resistant).
